Using a hole punch, volunteers punch the cards of the runners as they go
by to register each lap. As much as possible, volunteers are assigned to monitor
the laps for their child/grandchild’s classroom.
Here is what to do on your date/time of volunteering:
- Please come to school 10 minutes before Fun Run
- 9:50 am for the morning run
- 1:20 pm for the afternoon run
- For security purposes, sign in at the office and pick up your name tags
- Head down to the athletic field immediately north of the upper parking
lot.
- The volunteer coordinator will be there and will distribute hole punchers
and a stack of index cards for each classroom
- Classes will be distributed around the track to start, the classroom's
volunteers stay together and hand out cards (getting a good look at the
kids that they will be punching
- Gym teacher, Mr. Marino will call out the start of the race and monitor
time
- As the kids go around the track, our job is to punch a hole for every
lap they run
- At the end of the run, collect the cards from the kids and hand them
a popsicle
- Give the collected (punched) cards to the volunteer coordinator.
Reminders:
- Bring your cameras and take lots of pictures. The kids love seeing themselves
in action.
- Feel free to cheer them on as much as you can.
- Send a pair of worn shoes for our Nike shoe recycle program.
- Remind your kids to take a bottle of water. Send extra clothing if you
want. Kids don’t care if they are wet or muddy, but you might.
The entire event should takes no more than 45 minutes, but it will be very
rewarding. Your time is very much appreciated.
You are welcome to come, snap some pictures, watch and cheer on the runners.
For security purposes, you will need to sign in at the front office to notify
the administration that you are on site, so be sure to leave yourself a few
minutes to do this.
If you have little ones with you, realize that it is really fun and exciting
for them to watch, but often they like to get in the action with their siblings!
Keep a close eye on them so they stay safe and if age appropriate consider
using a stroller that can easily go over wet grass. Have fun!
