Chess Vision's goal is to provide a positive and encouraging environment for children to learn and develop as individuals. We see chess as a medium in which important skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, concentration and patience can be fostered and reinforced by providing opportunities for students through clubs, camps, tournaments, groups and private instruction in the greater Portland area. We hope to help children learn skills that will reward them for the rest of their life.
Chess Vision’s school program combines a professional instructional program with over-the-board practice and individual feedback providing an opportunity for young minds to learn and grow.

Galen brings his experience and great enthusiasm for the game to the kids he coaches. He is a junior at Reed College, head of their chess team and a philosophy major. Galan started playing chess in middle school, when he was in tournaments and played in the U1400 section at the Northern California Scholastic Championships and did the best of all the U1200 rated players.
Coach Galen has been teaching at several schools in the Portland area for the last two years. His clubs are very popular and have quickly gained popularity among the students as a fun and exciting program.
