Art Literacy - Colleen Lay & Teri McGarry

Well established and much loved art appreciation program that introduces a new artist and technique to the kids each month. Kids get an opportunity to try out the technique in their own work of art and become knowledgeable of inspirations and motivations of artists and sculptors. There is a great need for volunteers for this program, and it rewards volunteers greatly.

Art Night - we need you!

Opportunity for students to showcase their finest work from art class and art literacy. Each child has multiple works shown, from pottery to pastel. Often taking place in late spring, this event can be coupled with outside local artisans displaying their crafts, as a stand alone activity or in combination with another event. The point is to let the kids see their hard work appreciated.

Art Room Help - Sandra Miller

The art teacher, Lynn Whitehead has a very large (part time) job getting all of the materials prepared for all grades every week. If you enjoyed art or are just interested in the art process, drop in and help out with the preparations!

BBQ - Sandra Miller

This is the kick off school wide event! Food, fun and friends are all revisted while kids and families reunite after a long hot summer. Takes place the first Friday evening after school commencement.

Beautification - Shannon Krogh-Hartman

Often an activity that takes place during Art Night program, it often helps to assign a separate Beautification leader because the implementation of the beautification project often is after the activity or art creation has been devoloped.

Book & Breakfast Club - Sarah Thom

Review a book with students, do a literarture inspired art project and eat breakfast. Monthly program gives the early birds the worm and the mental boost.

Book Fair - we need you!

Support library by helping to set up book fair, if desired, assist children with selecting books.

Box Tops - Julia Fulmer

Advertise, coordinate, and report on the collection of General Mills boxtops for Cedar Mill. Keep parents motivated by keeping them updated with what has been purchased for the school with the proceeds in the Cedar Mill Quill and the PTC Newsletter.

Carnival - we need you!

Cedar Mill traditional end of the year party for students, parents and teachers. Food, fun and sweet goodbyes. This is a big event requiring lots of parents' help, from decorations to parking. The kids have a blast, and long lasting memories are built. Help a lot for a day or help a little for a month, or two, or three...

Class Auction Project - Not valid for 07/08

Each class creates a project for the PTC auction that will next happen in Spring 09.

Classroom Parents (2 per class) - we need you!

Build community in each classroom by promoting communication, interaction, and participation of parents. Enhance the teaching environment by assisting the teacher with various projects and tasks.

Clothes Closet/ Lost & Found - Kelly Orr

What do we do with all the hats, jackets, backpacks and miscellaneous items we find? We recycle them of course! If the original owner doesn't claim them, they go to someone who will appreciate them at the Beaverton Clothes Closet! This is a quick and easy monthly task that involves fifth graders.

Cub Scouting Representative - Susan McDonnell

Puts requestors in touch with boys' scouting options in community. Liason with school, troops, packs and dens. (Girls scout troop info for Cedar Mill Neighborhood)

Family Dinner Nights - Tracy Pierson

Help serve meals during any of four scheduled dinners through the year.

Field Day - Chris Marino

Help Physical Education teacher Mr. Merino get the kids ready for summer with a energetic exploration of a variety of games in June. This promises to be great fun.

Fifth grade Send-Off - Sue Deleeuw

Special event for graduating fifth graders that takes place in late May or early June. Plan class gift to school and develop a memory book for the fifth graders.

Fun Run - Maryam Zare

Highly motivational fun run to raise money for Cedar Mill Elementary. Mr. Moreno knows how to get the kids going around for Cedar Mill, can you help by lending your support? This is a one time activity in mid October that "runs" for a couple days dependent on the age group.

Grounds Clean-Up - Nancy Wells

Grounds clean up helps our kids take care of what they have. The area around the school does effect how they feel about the school. This role can be as big or as small as you make it and can involve as many students as you desire but it does involve at least twice annual team clean ups.

Health & Welfare - Sandi McRae

Coordinate volunteers for the health screening day. Vision and hearing checks are performed. Can you help? This is a one time event that occurs on October 16th.

Hospitality - Lisa Pruett

Give a big howdy-do to the new folks....get them involved and comfortable. Find them a family to link up with and ask questions of through the coming year. Limited effort required in the summer and throughout the year doing checkups and answering requests. Coordinates refreshments at selected PTC events; such as back to school meet & greet, kindergarten round-up, other gatherings as requested by the board. Great for someone who is not available during school hours!

Interpreter - Sheila Pruitt

Do you or someone you know have a fluency in a foreign language that would make you a valuable as a parent-teacher-administration intermediary? This role could be done from the privacy of your home, and help support the families that occasionally desire language support. Language most often needed is Spanish, but if you can do some interpreting in another language, we want to know about you as the student body changes constantly!

Kindergarten Round-Up - we need you!

Give a little howdy-do to our youngest buck-a-roos who come to the kindergarten orientation in the spring. Identify numbers and schedule with school secretary and kindergarten teachers and coordingate volunteers for the incoming kindergarteners and parents. Offer a sign up for play dates to help develop some relationships prior to day one of Kindergarten.

Library Assistance - Gillian Dyall

Help the librarians during library period one hour a week. Check-in and/or repair books. Training provided. This is a year round project with year round needs. Even if you can just help out once, do make yourself known, you will be welcome.

Pancake Breakfast - Lisa Pruett

Yum, yum, what can be said? Organize a Saturday morning fundraiser for the fourth grade overnight field trip, with fourth grader helpers. Help them plan, advertise, procure donations, decorate and implement. Event is in April.

Passport Club - Dave Waldrip

Monthly optional geography quiz for students to promote good global citizenship. Kids are provided an age appropriate number of disparate countries around the globe to study and are asked to find them on a map 2 weeks later. Volunteers are needed to support the Q&A for this well established program.

Photographer - we need you!

Photographer attends, or sends representative to school events and keeps historical record of general school activities and school functions. (Art Literacy, Carnival, Fun Run, School Dance, musical performances, etc.) Where appropriate, gets parent approval for use in promotional materials or website.

Picture Day - Kathy Hall

Help keep kids in line, their hair in line, stay tucked in, and keep picture day running smoothly, and full day volunteers get a package of pictures, free!.

Positive Behavior Store - we need you!

Turn those "gotchas" into in-kind rewards at the Positive Behavior Store. Needs support on Friday afternoons.

Read a thon - we need you!

Motivate and help tabulate the kids' reading challenge in the Spring.

Reading Train - Ashley Thelin

Reading train supports more challenged students in their reading curriculum. Reading train coordinator manages community volunteers that come in once or twice weekly for 30 minutes to guide reading through the year. Training provided in the fall.

Roster - Lori Alkana

Request and tabulate contact information for school roster. Requests for information go out in early September. School roster is completed and distributed before Thanksgiving.

Sally Foster Gift Wrap fundraiser- Nicole Sanford

Advertise, develop and implement Sally Foster fundraiser for school. This fundraiser starts in October and is completed by mid December.

School Dance - Cindy Howard

Light hearted "dance" party that takes place in mid winter season for all Cedar Mill students. Set up musicians and/or dj, lighting, dance activities and fund raisers. Watch them kick up their heels!

School Supply Kits - Janet Vanoni

End of spring through beginning of fall - develop list of required items for different classrooms, review list with kit vendors, establish best price, manage ordering and distribution of kits.

Science Fair - John Stonick

Fun science fair that takes place in mid April. Involves organizing setup in gym, exhibit layout, compiling list of judges, development of criteria used to evaluate and clean up activities.

Science Kits - Susan McDonnell

Help inventory Foss Science Kits twice a year in August and May. Order supplies as necessary.

Staff Appreciation - Sarah Thom

Staff appreciation activities take place during the first full week in May. Involves coordination of staff breakfasts, lunches and awards.

T-Shirts - Wende Ellis

School T-shirts build school spirit and unites students. T-shirt purchase takes place in mid-autumn and involves coordination T-shirt vendors, purchasing and distribution.

Work Party - we need you!

Parent support group for teachers. Wednesday morning copying, binding, and materials preparation to support classroom functions. Meet once a week and produce output as a group. This can be a drop in activity. If you are free during the work party, please join us in the office!

Webmaster - Nancy Wells

Update and maintain website for public use.
