At Cedar Mill Elementary, the enrichment programs are a variety of after-school learning activities and classes offered in the Fall, Winter and Spring. Classes usually take place once a week. A packet of informational flyers is sent home with each child before the start of each session. MONDAYAfrican Drumming and World BeatsTime: 3:15-4:15pm Price: $108 Children will learn to play African drums and other rhythm instruments as individuals and as part of a drum circle. The class will culminate with a performance for family and friends. Drums will be provided for in-class use. TUESDAYChess OdysseyTime: 3:15-4:45pm WEDNESDAYKids Like Languages: SpanishTime: 3:15-4:05pm Bricks 4 Kidz (Legos): Session 1Time: 3:15-4:15pm Bricks 4 Kidz (Legos): Session 2Time: 3:15-4:15pm Bricks 4 Kidz is a hands-on class, where students will design and build motorized machines and buildings out of LEGO bricks. While exploring engineering, architecture and physics, students will develop problem solving and critical thinking skills. THURSDAYYoung RembrandtsTime: 3:15-4:05pm We present a bountiful selection of drawings that introduce our students to a fascinating world of color, pattern, and design. Works this year will include still life drawings, color usage and composition and historical and cultural themes. FRIDAYYo-Yo University: Session 1Time: 3:15-4:05pm Yo-Yo University: Session 2Time: 3:15-4:05pm From beginners to advanced yo-yoers, Yo-Yo U teaches challenging tricks to all levels. A high-performance beginner yo-yo is included in the cost of the class.
Passport ClubPassport Club is an international geography program that Cedar Mill students, grades 1st thru 5th, participate in. Students learn world locations and identify them on a map. This program is run through parent volunteers. Please help out! Help is needed for checking on Wednesdays and prep work. Contact Wendy Bax. Check in Dates: Sept 28 Oct 19 Nov 16 Dec 14 Jan 18 Art LiteracyArt Literacy is a district-wide “artist-in-a-box” program. Five times a year parent volunteers present lessons on an artist, along with a related art project. You don’t have to be an artist or art historian to participate. If you would like to help contact Colleen Lay and Sue Martinez. Family Activities and EventsIn the past the PTC has offered some fun events at the school like: Back to School BBQ, Movie Nights, Sock Hop and the Carnival. We will be offering fun events like this again this year! Science FairAll Cedar Mill students are invited to participate in the Cedar Mill Science Fair, either individually or in groups. Every student participant will receive a certificate and will automatically become eligible to be a future world renowned scientist! This year the fair will be held April 20. The Student Stop is a non profit School-Age Care Program which has served Cedar Mill Elementary School Since 1992. The Student Stop offers a fun and safe environment for your child and, additionally, offers parents affordable rates and flexible scheduling.
